Ladies Who Lunch: Timo Weiland Spring 2015!

Before beginning his career in the fashion and design industry, Timo Weiland studied economics, Spanish literature and business management and worked as a corporate analyst at Deutsche Bank Securities.

However, Timo Weiland’s creative nature led him into the design world where he founded his eponymous label with partners Alan Eckstein and Donna Kang.

Named one of the top ten breakout fashion designers of 2010 by Style Caster, Timo Weiland went on to win the 2014 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award.

Although Timo Weiland creates both women’s and men’s collections, he concentrated on presenting his Spring 2015 men’s collection during New York Fashion Week with a collection that is so cool and wearable that I want the whole collection in my closet!

Ladies Who Lunch: Deola Sagoe & CLAN Spring 2015!

A star in her homeland of Nigeria, designer Deola Sagoe began her design career in 1989 and rapidly gained international attention for her lovely and colorful designs.  Deola Sagoe prides herself on her couture creations which are an experience of East meets West.

Deola Sagoe draws her inspiration from traditional Nigerian fabrics and cuts which she merges with Western aesthetics.  This combination results in wearable works of art.  In her most recent collection, Deola Sagoe included pieces created with adire fabric which is hand dyed in Nigeria by the Yoruba women.

Following in their mother’s footsteps, Deola Sagoe’s daughters Teni, Tiwa and Aba have launched their own collection, CLANCLAN focuses on a younger clientele, with silhouettes that are glamorous and sexy.  While Deola Sagoe’s collection is more couture driven, CLAN is aimed at being a more accessible ready-to-wear line.

Presenting the Deola Sagoe and CLAN Spring 2015 together at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York, both mother and daughters showed how their collections complimented each other.  They also introduced Nigerian fashion to a wider audience that is sure to appreciate their beautiful and creative artistry!

Ladies Who Lunch: SAUNDER Spring 2015!

SAUNDER by New York native Emily Saunders has continued to capture my attention season after season with her chic collections.

One of the things I love about SAUNDER is that Emily Saunders picks very strong inspirations for her collections, which create a line that is cohesive and very focused.

Emily Saunders also has a fine eye for detail which gives her SAUNDER collection a couture feel.  And as sophisticated as it is, there is also a playfulness too the collections that ensure that the SAUNDER Collection is always fun.

I became a fan of SAUNDER after the first collection I covered and Emily Saunders has continued to wow me and ensure that I keep coming back for more!

Ladies Who Lunch: CRUBA by Mira Becker Spring 2015!

When I began my design studies at Parsons School of Design, one of my first friends was Mira Becker (aka Mira von der Osten).  While our personal design styles were very different, I always admired her designs for their creativity, drape and that they were very relevant to the market.

After many years abroad, Mira Becker returned to her native Germany and in 2008 created her Berlin based CRUBA collection.  Mira’s designs transmit a message about Berlin’s vibrant energy and the world’s need to build more wholesome urban environments.

Mira’s CRUBA collections are created with fine natural materials that are constructed with intricate cuts and an architectural approach.  A true perfectionist, Mira pays attention to every detail and insists on the highest quality.

Designed in the heart of Berlin, CRUBA not only reflects the energy and creative spirit of one of the hottest cities in the world, but brings to reality the talent and creative vision of the prolific Mira Becker.

Ladies Who Lunch: Falguni & Shane Peacock Spring 2015!

Falguni & Shane Peacock believe that “Life is too short to blend in” and for Spring 2015 they presented another brilliant collection that upholds this philosophy.

The Mumbai based husband and wife design team have gained a well heeled following with garments that are unique with unusual styling and an attention to detail.  But the true essence of Falguni & Shane Peacock is Luxury.

A key signature of Falguni & Shane Peacock is the juxtaposition of contrasting elements: fragility and strength, tradition and modernity and fluidity and severity.  All of these elements come together to create collections that with their unexpected twists are as dramatic as they are glamorous.

While staying true to their signature style, Falguni & Shane Peacock Spring 2015 pushes the envelope once again for a collection that is elegant, intricate and above all beautiful.
